The Osijek coach congratulated Istra on their victory, highlighted the quality of their transition play and reflected on the chances his team had before half-time.

Osijek made a good start to the match and created several chances in the first half, but the teams went into the break level. Istra were more clinical after the interval, scored two more goals and secured a 3–1 victory.

We had several good chances to make it 2–0, and that would certainly have changed the game. Istra then scored a fantastic goal and were ultimately a little better than us. We have to acknowledge that this time, and I want to congratulate them on their victory. They were excellent in transition, said Federico Bessone.

Chances that could have changed the game

Before half-time, Osijek had two good opportunities through Leon, including a header and an attempt that ended up hitting the outside of the net. Bessone believes that converting at least one of those chances could have changed the course of the match.

If we had taken at least one of those two chances, especially the header, it is clear that the game would have unfolded differently. Our opponents prepared very well for this match, the White-and-Blues’ coach emphasised.

Osijek finished the first round of the league season with 16 points, with two more home matches remaining before the end of the autumn campaign.

We are finishing the first round of the season with 16 points, and if someone had asked me before the season started, I would have gladly signed up for that return. Now we have to move forward, remain positive and prepare for the next match. We want to pick up points, Bessone concluded.
