When NK Proleter Finally Made It into the First League in Ex-Yugoslavia after Successful Qualifiers
Osijek’s players were once true record-breakers in the ex-Yugoslavia area when it comes to played qualifiers for the then-First Federal League. It was mostly disappointing for football fans though, but for the first time since WWII, then-NK Proleter reached the elite in 1953. Proleter earned first place in the Croatian-Slovenian League, beating Odred and Sibenik to it, beginning its way toward the First League ranks.

Proleter lost against Odred (2:3 and 1:0), played a tie against Borac in Banja Luka (1:1) and one victory on the playfield Kraj Drave (5:0), Franjo Rupnik being the goal getter of all five scores, which became legend. The First League status was won by Tretinjak, Malčić, Majer, Feld, Medić, Pintarić, Bestvina, Kasa, Rupnik, Vekić, Šestak, Brnjevarac, Šalaja, Drača, Jocić, Brkić, Kockar, Orešković, Flačer and Bato.
