On more than 50 locations, walls are painted with pictures of NK Osijek, the city, Slavonia and Croatia
One of the most important activities of the fans of Osijek in the fan club Kohorta is the painting of murals and graffiti at places where it isn't only attractive, but also permitted. Kohorta’s members started doing that in 2005 thanks to Petar Zivkovic and Zsolt Vacora, who coerced others into joining them in the organized gentrification of some abandoned or decrepit buildings or walls in our city.
“It was accepted by the then-leadership of Kohorta and it later turned into a cooperation with the city itself. The project “Uljepsajmo Grad” (make the city pretty) began and the city administration helped the fans with the procuration of materials, but most importantly with the legalization of certain locations that seemed adequate for graffiti and murals. The city is doing it even now, to our content” said Vacora.
There are more than 50 works today at more than 50 locations in Osijek and some suburban areas and wider. Usually it’s works depicting symbols of NK Osijek, the city, etc. “We renewed most things in the sense of gentrifying it, making old and decrepit things look more alive. I believe that what we do is to the liking of many, and I am sure that no one minds it. The patriotism is seen in it and those who love this city feel that they are part of it and talk about it positively.”
The wish is to found a special association
Zsolt and Petar are still very much active and everything is now one level higher, becoming part of the Osijek urban subculture.
We were at the Air 21 Jam festival in April this year on the Highschool playgrounds, when we were painting the façade of the Electrometallurgical and traffic school. Our wish is to found a special association that would attract graffiti artists in Slavonia. By doing that, we would grow the graffiti scene.
Concerning the most recent graffiti, the latest, “Pokrenimo grad – lega moj”, came about in the district Uske njive, along the southern Osijek bypass.
“We dedicated that one to the 70th anniversary of the founding of NK Osijek that we will celebrate next year. We plan to prettify more locations in the city, and concerning that segment of fan activism, I can say that we are toe to toe with the leading fanclubs in Croatia indeed.” Vacora accentuated.
