For the 4th time in a row, Osijek had the lead after the first half at Maksimir and didn’t let up.
What a day for Osijek! Many couldn’t have even dreamed of the outcome in which Osijek won 3 times at Maksimir. The U17 won the Croatian Cup finale, as did the U19 team, and as the cherry on top, Osijek won against Dinamo in a magnificent match.
Osijek managed to do what no one ever could at Dinamo’s turf, returning with a 3 out of 3 win streak. The younger age groups are to be commended, too, with the focus being on the ones who took down the king – NK Osijek as David, Dinamo as Goliath.
Constant Presence of Mind
The first half remidned us of the last 3 games where the Blue Boys were the home team. In all of them, Osijek took the lead in the first 20 minutes, which happened on Wednesday, too. The break never came without Osijek having the lead, only for Dinamo to make a full-scale assault on Osijek in order to evade certain defeat.
They were out of luck this time, particularly in the final moments of the game, which was similar to the 2 matches before this one because Osijek learned how to deal with Dinamo. The focus was at its peak until the final second, with the brilliant Malenica being indomitable as he made Soudani, Gavranovic, Hajrovic, Benkovic and co. desperate.
An NK Osijek in Top Shape
Not only did Osijek’s keeper earn his commendations, but also did all the others who were chosen by Zekic, executing his orders to a tee and being an even match to Dinamo. Zekic is to be congratulated, for he really did devise a perfect tactic. The positioning by Hajradinovic and Maric was perfect, which confounded the opponents because Benkovic and Brahmani found themselves in situations where the ball possession was much more often theirs than it was for Doumbi, Ademi and Dinamo’s midfield.
Boban harassed the backline incessantly, showing his high energy and good positioning again, scoring the sealing shot for a 3rd triumph over Dinamo since the HNL came into existence. To be congratulated are the fans, who provided the morale for Osijek to win.
