Osijek's U13 wins second place, loses to Dinamo in the finals thru penalty kicks.
In honor of Sarajevo Day, as the Valter Academy organized its Cup, many teams arrived to compete, including the highly successful Osijek U13. They placed second, not suffering a defeat even once, if one disregards their being weaker during penalty kicks against Dinamo in the final match. During the last game, no goal was scored, Dinamo winning during penalty kicks 3-0. Ante Bekavac’s pupils left a great impression during the whole tournament, as proven by all 6 played games.
Penalty Kicks Decide the Outcome
Osijek beat Subotica’s Spartak in the first match 2-1 (Pavlicic and Vrbanac), later besting Slovenian Brinja from Grosuplje 6-0 (Damjanovic, Herceg, Ivancan, Pejic, Prekodravac & Vrbanac), and finally beating their Sarajevo peers 1-0 (Damjanovic).
In the quarterfinals, Osijek finished 0-0 against Novi Sad-s Vojvodina, whom they beat during penalty kicks with a score of 5-4. Penalty kicks were deciding in the semifinals game against Beograd’s Crvena Zvezda, the match being a 1-1 tie for the whole duration and the penalty kicks ending in Osijek’s favor: 6-4. However, as already mentioned in the introduction, Dinamo celebrated their victory, who showed calmness and proficiency in executing the penalty kicks.
