The goal getter for Osijek was best player vs. Hajduk.
Immediately after match end, as the players went for the dressing rooms, we talked with Mirko Maric, the goal getter for NK Osijek. Besides scoring a goal, Mirko was one of the prime acteurs of the match because he showed his perfect timing and correct follow up of his teammates’ passes.
“I think that we played one of our better showings, maybe even the best since I came to Osijek! We had a big number of shots and deservingly won, despite only having scored one point. I congratulate all the boys, for now we must finish the season in the best way possible, hoping that we will gather some points in Koprivnica. I hope that we will repeat the successes from our past 2 matches and that we will celebrate another win” said Maric.
2 Missed Points
What surprised the fans most was the defence Osijek had against the opposing team, playing without having overcomplicated things. “We haven’t had anything to lose because we didn’t have any prime goal. We showed our worth by playing well and we will try to repeat the feats we achieved in all following matches. This time we played flawlessly, from Santini to the strikers. A pity that we haven’t won the remaining 2 points I believe that we will be even more happy against Slaven Belupo” said Maric. With his goal at Poljud, he arrives at 7 scores this season in the HNL, adding an additional 4 in the Croatia Cup.
“I think it’s more important that we play well and keep aiming high than it is to count my scores. Be it me, Grezda, Hajradinovic, Boban or anyone else, that’s beside the point. We must continue to play well, feel well and to remain uninjured” Maric added.
Players Love to Lock Horns with Opponents
A pity that not every game Osijek play is one of a calibre such as Osijek v. Hajduk because Mirko and co. are at their best right in these kinds of games.
“Yes, we’ve shown our worth in high profile games. It’s usually a challenge to play in the League when someone closes all entrances and holds onto the ball. This season, we had the misfortune of having played teams that favour such strategies, but if someone had tried us, we showed just how good we can be” concluded Maric.
