Osijek couldn’t compensate for their lack of standard roster players, so that a second home loss was inevitable.
There are matches where a defeat hurts a lot more than it usually does, especially when neither a win nor a loss would move the team anywhere point-wise. However, when the atmosphere on the stadium seems positive, where 4,5k spectators watch as Osijek and Lokomotiva fight it out, then it’s extremely painful when one loses. Everyone eagerly awaited the Saturday showdown, especially due to the fact that Kohorta has been celebrating their birthday.
Positive vibrations on the tribunes
With a victory potentially being the icing on the cake for Kohorta, a loss was all the sourer. Osijek lost for a second time in front of their fans, with the loss being extra painful. The support Osijek had from Kohorta was ecstatic and lasted during the whole match so it’s a pity that Osijek lost. It may have turned out differently if Barac’s goal hadn’t been negated, or if Skoric had managed to score the header at the start of the second half.
Not NK Osijek’s Day
To put it simply, Osijek didn’t have their day. The gameplay was all over the pitch and the nerves were exposed as mistakes accumulated. In these situations, all you can hope for is divine intervention at best, but we haven’t seen any help from above. The absence of prime roster players proved to be fatal for Osijek. We can’t say that the drive was lacking, but Osijek would’ve been happier if the outcome were different. We don’t doubt that things will be better in the coming showings.
