Again, NK Osijek had their Opportunities, with a Missed One being the Lead in the First Half.

Impressions – Gerrard’s squad was much more agile than in the last match, but Osijek showed up sharper, too. There were many opportunities, especially Henty’s and Bockaj’s shot and the foiled attempt by Mudrazija from 10 meters. In the odd opportunity, Osijek attempted to score, but the finishing touch just wasn’t there. In the second half, the Rangers were much more dominant and resolute, especially after scoring the first goal and nearing the second round. Barisic returned a dose of uncertainty in the third act, but there was not enough time to turn the tide.

 

Key Moment – Sadly, it was the goal in the 54th minute. Tavernier crossed the ball into the penalty area from the flank, Malenica was unable to expel the ball in the fuss in front of the goal and Morelos found the opportunity to header the ball in front of Katic. The Croat in the Rangers squad lets loose into the right side of the goal and secures the lead for the home team. It was sure that this goal sealed Osijek’s fate.

 

Ambient – The fans of the Blues awarded every single good play with a roaring ovation. The fans went wild when Katic scored. It was surely a huge experience to play in front of 50,000 spectators, something Osijek’s players had never experienced before.

 

Kohorta – 70 fan members came to far away Glasgow and roared and cheered. They deserve praise for their passionate cheers and it’s sad that some of them suffered physical injuries in inter-fan conflict next to the stadium. Luckily, there weren’t any fatalities, but it was nevertheless a sour overture to the match.
