Impressions – Dinamo showed up just as Osijek expected – on point and sharp. They were disciplined in pulling off their strategy and responsible with the ballgame, winning 1 on 1’s and determined when needed. It was evident from the first score when Theophile leaped over Guti, which encapsulated the whole match in a way. Osijek were too reserved in their executions, so that they barely reached the enemy penalty area.
Osijek’s PotG – In the 74th minute, when Kadzior crossed the ball during a right corner kick, the ball travelled towards the short-hand goalpost, where Dilaver headered the ball towards the opposing side of the goal, where the relentless Theophile let loose with a header, but Malenica reacted and saved the ball with his cat-like reflexes.
Star Players – Osijek’s ranks saw many great individual players do their best, but not enough, sadly. Marko Malenica defended some seriously dangerous shots during the whole match. Sadly, his teammates didn’t follow up, thus leaving Osijek empty-handed.
Key Moment – Dinamo knew that they had to neutralize quick counter-plays by Henty and Boban and keep Maric and Hajradinovic away from the goal. Osijek sluggishly attempted to move the ball into enemy territory, but the flanking forwards didn’t create openings, so that opportunities stopped before they had the chance to develop. Osijek’s Achilles heel was showered in the limelight – namely granting opponents free kicks and corner kicks.
