MATCH REPORT: OSIJEK – SLAVEN BELUPO 1:1

Impressions – It was difficult to gauge what prevented Osijek from dominating the first half even more. It always looked like every mistake will be capitalized on by Slaven Belupo. Osijek’s efforts were vain at the beginning, but they fired on all cylinders in the second half. Nevertheless, it was a match that will surely leave the fan consciousness quickly.

Plays – Petar Bockaj’s free kicks are becoming legendary at this point. Koprivnica’s Ivkovic said it best – if there’s a free kick in that particular area, Osijek’s left-footed striker will surely strike true. Pero masterfully shot over the player wall from 18 meters away, with Zekic cautioning Hajradinovic not to take over the ball. Osijek has the fortune to have Bockaj because he excels in these kinds of situations.

The Squad – it is no surprise that the squad must be efficient and well-put together to win. Osijek wasn’t that, though, not in this match. Without resolve and risk-taking, a team cannot execute their strategies. If Osijek had all that it took against Hajduk, Rudes, Istra, even the Rangers, then we would expect them to destroy Slaven Belupo. It’s sad that Bockaj’s glorious score didn’t bring Osijek the win.

The Mood – 2 points were left unclaimed, but it isn’t really an issue for NK Osijek. Even a club such as Dinamo lost points against Rudes in Maksimir, Hajduk tied against Lokomotiva and suffered against Gorica, Rijeka isn’t on point at home, either. Therefore, this is no time for disappointment. We hoped for a 4^th win in Gradski Vrt, but plans tend to change. However, Lokomotiva should better prepare for the coming match.
