Vito Čaić is a new White-and-Blue!

NK Osijek has completed the signing of another player during the summer transfer window. Vito Čaić (born 1 April 2005) has signed a 2+1-year contract with the White-and-Blues after arriving from Dinamo Zagreb.

Last season, Čaić spent the year on loan at HNK Vukovar, where he established himself as a regular starter and an important member of the first team. Primarily a centre-back, he is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, depending on the coach’s tactical requirements.

Despite being only 21 years old, Čaić has already accumulated valuable experience. He has made around fifty appearances in the Croatian top flight, first with Gorica and then Vukovar, while also spending half a season at Velež Mostar in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has also represented Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian Cup and earned appearances for Croatia’s U-21 national team.

An analytical review of Čaić’s performances last season highlights several impressive physical and defensive metrics. He ranked well above the league average in high-intensity running (479.6), high-intensity actions per 90 minutes (42.9), sprints per match (6.3), high-speed accelerations (4.9) and explosive accelerations leading into sprints (1.25). Defensively, he also stood out with 4.59 interceptions, 3.27 clearances and a 57% success rate in aerial duels. These are all indicators of a player with significant footballing quality and were among the reasons why NK Osijek identified him as a key transfer target.

What impressed me the most was the professional approach of the sporting director and his assistant. I was genuinely interested in the entire project they presented to me. I’ve played at this beautiful stadium several times during my career, so I already know the infrastructure very well. In my eyes, Osijek has always been one of Croatia’s biggest clubs.
I know how much this club means to its supporters and to the people of Osijek. Regardless of what happened last season, I’m convinced things will soon be very different. We simply have to do better because this club—and especially its loyal fans—deserve it. I want to bring positive energy and be part of a winning story that we are about to create.

Team success is my biggest priority, but I also see Osijek as an excellent environment for my own development,” said Čaić, who will wear the number 13 shirt.

 

Opus Arena must become an unbeatable fortress!

 

Čaić is a truly versatile footballer who is not limited to a single position. At his age, both personally and professionally, he still has tremendous room for development and can offer a great deal on the pitch. Equally comfortable with both feet, he has always been physically well prepared and highly motivated to continue proving himself at the highest level.

I think we have to bring the fans back to the stadium, and the only way to do that is through good performances. Once we consistently play well, the results will naturally follow. We have to turn Opus Arena into an unbeatable fortress where nobody can come and defeat us.
Years ago it was extremely difficult to beat Osijek at Gradski vrt, and that is the standard we need to return to. Nobody should arrive here expecting to take three points.

Supporters may also remember, albeit not fondly, the last meeting between Osijek and Vukovar at Gradski vrt, when Čaić was among the highest-rated players on the pitch. We hope to see many more performances of that quality—this time in our colours.

It was a unique atmosphere because practically everyone in the stadium was supporting NK Osijek, while we were technically the home team. I spent a wonderful year living in Vukovar.
Of course, in terms of club size, reputation and infrastructure, Vukovar cannot be compared with Osijek, but it was still a great Slavonian rivalry, and in the end Osijek deservedly came out on top.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time in this city over the years and I genuinely like it. People here live for this club, which motivates me even more. I already know several of my new teammates personally, and I’m looking forward to meeting the head coach and learning more about his ideas.
I’ve experienced the spirit of Slavonia and seen how honest and welcoming the people here are. I want to repay them through my performances. Interestingly, my family originates from Nova Gradiška, so this region already feels close to home.
