The 26-year-old centre-forward arrives after spells in Mexico and Andorra, where he previously worked under Federico Bessone.
Mexican striker Armando Leon has officially become a new player of NK Osijek.
After arriving at Opus Arena on trial earlier this summer and featuring in all of the club's pre-season matches, the sporting department decided to retain him and offer him a contract with the White and Blues. Leon has signed a 1+1-year deal, and we wish him, above all, good health and, of course, plenty of success on the pitch.
The 26-year-old forward, born in Ensenada, is the first Mexican player in NK Osijek's history. He began his football journey at Pachuca and remained in Mexico until 2024, when he moved to Andorra to join FC Ranger's, from where he now arrives in Osijek. Leon says he has felt welcome from the very first day.
I'd like to thank everyone. I'm very happy with the way I've been welcomed here, and it's been like that ever since I arrived. Everyone has been incredibly friendly and always willing to help. My teammates have supported me from day one, and I already feel like one of them. That makes me very happy. I thinkLeon scored 43 goals during his time at FC Ranger's, producing the best performances of his career that's the most important thing when you join a new club, Leon said.
"I Like This Team"
Leon scored 43 goals during his time at FC Ranger's, producing the best performances of his career, which was also reflected in his impressive statistics.
Yes, thank God everything went well there. I adapted well to the team's playing style and managed to make the most of it personally. I've come to Osijek to work hard, give everything I have, and perform at a high level here as well. Hopefully, both the club and I will be equally satisfied.
He also spent a short spell at FC Santa Coloma, where he was coached by Federico Bessone, with whom he now reunites in Croatia.
He certainly deserves part of the credit for me being here. He knows me well as a player and understands what I can contribute on the pitch. I'm confident we'll work well together again, always for the benefit of the team. I have to say that I really like the squad I've joined. We understand the rhythm and dynamics of the game and what the coaching staff expects from us, which allows us to enjoy every match. I'm convinced we'll do well.
Standing 189 cm tall, many have already noticed that both his physique and movement resemble those of former NK Osijek striker Ramon Mierez.
Haha, they told me that almost immediately after my first training session. I've heard he was an outstanding goalscorer. I'll do everything I can to live up to the expectations of my teammates, the coaching staff, everyone at the club and, of course, our supporters. I enjoy playing aggressively, pressing high, scoring goals and helping the team achieve the best possible results. I hope I'll enjoy every moment of it. I'm doing what I love most, I'm highly motivated, and this feels like the perfect place to prove myself.
Responsibility and Pride
Leon has chosen to wear the number 79 shirt and, interestingly, becomes the first Mexican player ever to represent NK Osijek.
Really? That certainly brings a certain responsibility, but it's also a great honour. I'll proudly represent my country while playing for Osijek and will do everything I can to adapt quickly to the Croatian league, which I know is very competitive. That's a challenge I'm looking forward to.
NK Osijek Sporting Director Kenneth Zandvliet described Leon's qualities and what he is expected to bring to the team:
Armando is a striker who brings tremendous energy to the game. He is extremely hardworking and physically strong in duels, particularly when playing with his back to goal. That allows the team to push higher up the pitch and maintain possession in dangerous areas. He also plays an important role during defensive transitions, significantly reducing the workload of our midfielders. He is a forward who can drop deep to receive the ball, link up play with his teammates, while remaining a constant threat inside the penalty area thanks to his intelligent movement. We are very pleased to have signed a striker with this particular profile, one that complements our squad well. We wish Armando every success at our wonderful club and believe he will score many goals in the Croatian league. I would also like to invite all our supporters to give him their full backing and stand behind him every time he represents NK Osijek.
Performance Analysis
Leon offers a rare combination of physical dominance, direct goal threat and a high-intensity work rate. Standing at 189 cm, he provides valuable height, strength and physical presence. His 3.59 touches in the opposition penalty area per 90 minutes demonstrate his ability to consistently occupy dangerous central positions. He averages 2.05 shots per 90 minutes, with 50.4% of those efforts on target, highlighting his ability to regularly get into high-quality scoring positions and finish chances efficiently.
With a 47.3% dribble success rate, Leon is capable of beating defenders in one-on-one situations while also contributing creatively, averaging 0.76 shot assists and 0.45 key passes per 90 minutes. His ability to win possession high up the pitch reflects his commitment to the team, his aggressive pressing style and his effectiveness in regaining the ball in advanced areas.
Overall, Leon profiles as a complete striker entering the prime years of his career—a physically dominant forward capable of posing a consistent goal threat while also excelling in one-on-one situations and contributing significantly to the team's overall play.
