Armando Leon Becomes NK Osijek's First-Ever Mexican Player

Mexican striker Armando Leon has officially become a new player of NK Osijek.

After arriving at Opus Arena on trial earlier this summer and featuring in all of the club's pre-season matches, the sporting department decided to retain him and offer him a contract with the White and Blues. Leon has signed a 1+1-year deal, and we wish him, above all, good health and, of course, plenty of success on the pitch.

The 26-year-old forward, born in Ensenada, is the first Mexican player in NK Osijek's history. He began his football journey at Pachuca and remained in Mexico until 2024, when he moved to Andorra to join FC Ranger's, from where he now arrives in Osijek. Leon says he has felt welcome from the very first day.

I'd like to thank everyone. I'm very happy with the way I've been welcomed here, and it's been like that ever since I arrived. Everyone has been incredibly friendly and always willing to help. My teammates have supported me from day one, and I already feel like one of them. That makes me very happy. He also spent a short spell at FC Santa Coloma, where he was coached by Federico Bessone, with whom he now reunites in Croatia.

He certainly deserves part of the credit for me being here. He knows me well as a player and understands what I can contribute on the pitch. I'm confident we'll work well together again, always for the benefit of the team. I have to say that I really like the squad I've joined. We understand the rhythm and dynamics of the game and what the coaching staff expects from us, which allows us to enjoy every match. I'm convinced we'll do well.

Standing 189 cm tall, many have already noticed that both his physique and movement resemble those of former NK Osijek striker Ramon Mierez.

I'll do everything I can to live up to the expectations of my teammates, the coaching staff, everyone at the club and, of course, our supporters. I enjoy playing aggressively, pressing high, scoring goals and helping the team achieve the best possible results. I hope I'll enjoy every moment of it. I'm doing what I love most, I'm highly motivated, and this feels like the perfect place to prove myself.

Responsibility and Pride

Leon has chosen to wear the number 79 shirt and, interestingly, becomes the first Mexican player ever to represent NK Osijek.

Really? That certainly brings a certain responsibility, but it's also a great honour. I'll proudly represent my country while playing for Osijek and will do everything I can to adapt quickly to the Croatian league, which I know is very competitive. That's a challenge I'm looking forward to.
