The youngest member of our squad fitted in perfectly as Osijek produced a highly impressive and commanding display against Gorica.

Our team delivered an outstanding performance in the opening match of the new season! The White-and-Blues were lively and dominant from the first whistle to the last, creating numerous chances and converting two of them to secure a convincing and fully deserved 2-0 victory. Ivan Dolček opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a precise finish from the right side of the penalty area, picking out the far corner just inside the post, before Nail Omerović doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Jon Ježić was brought down inside the box. Every player on the pitch made an important contribution to the victory and deserves praise, as does the coaching staff for preparing a tactical approach that proved to be the winning formula.

Thank you for the congratulations. We deserved to win tonight. Respect to Gorica, but we were excellent, creating chances and dominating possession. The ball moved really well, while defensively we fought hard and did everything right. We started the match brilliantly, scored two early goals and then continued in exactly the same way. We didn’t drop back into our own penalty area to defend the lead, as many teams would have done. Credit to all the lads. We just need to keep going like this, said 17-year-old Ježić.

It was a pleasure to watch this kind of performance!

The balance of power did not change after the break. Everything remained under the control of Federico Bessone’s side, and the fact that our players produced as many as 24 shots on goal perhaps best illustrates just how dominant the performance was. Everyone who travelled to the stadium in Velika Gorica, as well as those watching on television, had every reason to enjoy the display of the White-and-Blues.

We controlled everything in the second half as well. We had another three or four clear chances. It’s true we didn’t score at least one more goal, but that doesn’t matter. The important thing is that we didn’t concede and kept a clean sheet.

Once again, Jona showcased the full extent of his immense potential. He played a direct role in winning the penalty for the second goal and was composed in possession throughout, always making the right and simple decisions at the right moments. He deserved the applause he received when leaving the pitch, along with congratulations for an excellent performance shared with all of his teammates.

Thank you all for your support, and thank you to our fans who came to cheer us on. This is only the beginning, so I need to keep performing like this. We got through the opening round in the best possible way. Our next match is also in Velika Gorica, where we’ll face Rudeš. It would be great to win again and take all six points from the opening two rounds. That would be fantastic!
