Bessone: I’m Pleased with the Way We Played

Osijek played out a 0-0 draw away to Varaždin in Matchday 8 of the SuperSport HNL. In the first half, Tunjić hit the post, while Izak Ježić’s goal was disallowed following a VAR intervention. Late in the match, Bukvić also had a goal ruled out due to Leon being offside in the build-up.

We knew it would be a difficult match against a very good opponent with an excellent coach who knows exactly what he wants from his team. It’s a shame we didn’t take all three points because we had two goals disallowed and also hit the post. I had the feeling we could have taken something more than a draw, but this is still a good result. I’m pleased with the way we played the match, said head coach Federico Bessone.

The Team Is Getting Better Week by Week

We try everything we can to win, but sometimes it simply isn’t possible. Sometimes the opposition plays well, and sometimes you have a match where you create chances but don’t manage to take them. However, when you can’t win, it’s important not to allow the opposition to do so either. That’s why I think this is a good point, earned at a difficult away ground.

Bessone also reflected on Bukvić’s disallowed goal late in the match.

We didn’t immediately see from the bench that Armando was offside at the start of the move. It’s a shame because Bukvić scored a beautiful goal. We had everything under control for large parts of the match and were closer to scoring because we had several chances to win, but this time we couldn’t find the net. Everyone knows we’re a young team and sometimes it’s difficult to remain focused for all 96 minutes, which is how long today’s match lasted. But I’m very proud because, week by week, our team is becoming stronger and better. I’m very happy about that.
